De Botanische Groep.

Eerst even over de Botanische Groep.

The Botanical Group.

First something about the Botanical Group.  It was founded in 1982 out of the Improvement Group (also a part of UTC). That year a big collection of cuttings of Fuchsia species came from the USA. That was also wonderful material for Improvement.

Mrs Reiman then published a proposal for the foundation of a Botanical Group. About 25 people responded to that call and the Botanical Group was born. In the course of time members came and members went. Now it is still a Group of about 20.

When we started, there were altogether about 50 species,  some easy and some difficult. They did not all survive. With ups and downs, we had to learn how to care for every single species.

That first Plant Collection is still the basis of the Dutch collection.  Through the years, the number of Species increased with visits abroad and guests from abroad.
Now there are about 90 Species present in the Netherlands.
Knowledge about Species and their care has increased and continues to do so.

The Botanical Group is now one of the study groups united in the UTC (Broad Technical Commission). See further on the Site of the Nkvf.

The Botanical Group attempts to gather an as large as possible a collection of Fuchsia species in the Netherlands and than to maintain and extend that collection. We keep a list of who has which species. And, alongside that, which species threatens to die out and therefore must be slipped and distributed. Our intention is to keep every single species in several places.
